Dear Colleague,

First, on behalf of NJSPS’s new political action committee – PLASTIC SURGERY PAC -- we want to thank those of you who have supported our efforts in the fight for our profession! Without it, the voice of the plastic surgeons would not be heard in Trenton!

The New Jersey Society of Plastic Surgeons has worked hard to promote the best interests of our profession in the state legislature. Working with legislators and staff during the legislative session, NJSPS is educating New Jersey lawmakers and making sure plastic surgery’s voice is heard on a number of very important issues:

  • Surgery by Surgeons

  • Major cuts in reimbursement

  • Legislation and Regulations that affect your livelihood and the safety of your patients

These are just a few examples of how NJSPS is watching out for you and your patients. Now we need your help! And the plethora of state legislative activity is the reason that NJSPS has formed its own political action committee – PLASTIC SURGERY PAC.

You decided long ago to become a plastic surgeon. And, indeed, the education, experience and training requirements to gain entry into the profession are among the most rigorous of any profession. Your path to becoming a doctor was paved with hard work and many long hours. But some are successfully lobbying the legislature and government officials to take away that which you strived so hard to achieve. Consider this:

1. The business of medicine is controlled and shaped by government.

We need to protect the integrity and the qualifications of the profession. We need a legislative voice in Trenton.

2. Elections cost money.

No matter what kind of campaign finance reform may be adopted, it won’t change the fact that elections cost money. Political Action Committees, or PACs, allow citizens with similar interest to combine their resources to support candidates and causes with which they agree. PACs level the playing field.

3. PLASTIC SURGERY PAC is an investment in your bottom line.

Your PAC contributions help not only promote issues important to plastic surgeons, but also help to increase the effect of the plastic surgeons’ voice in issues that can have a negative impact on your practice. Whether the goal is to elect good candidates that understand the profession or to educate the public about the role of the plastic surgeon in patient care, PLASTIC SURGERY PAC is the most effective way.

Now is the time to “pay your share.” To increase our ability to make an impact in Trenton, we need every plastic surgeon to step up and support our efforts. Please consider the work we do and help the fight with a generous contribution to PLASTIC SURGERY PAC.

You invest in your future when you invest in PLASTIC SURGERY PAC. Thank you for your generous support!

Sincerely,

Peter T. Hetzler, MD, FACS James N. Gardner, MD, FACS
